Aesernia. Excavation Under the Cathedral: First Observations on Roman Pottery

Abstract

In the early ‘80s, excavation under the Cathedral of Isernia returned a large number of fragments of pottery, found in the mediaeval stratigraphy that filled an early imperial public space, maybe a cryptoporticus, in the sacred area of the Latin colony of Aesernia. We intend to expose the first results of the analysis, to verify presence and duration of the types we found.

    Alessia Guidi obtained a post-graduate diploma in Archaeology at the University of Padova (2012) and is adjunct researcher in Classical Archaeology at the University of Molise, working on research on pottery and floors of Roman period.
